RVDA-RVIA Technician Certification Program Ends Specialty Certifications
Specialty Online Courses Will Continue

(Fairfax, VA) Specialty Certifications for RV technicians are being eliminated following recent action by the RV Service Technician Certification Governing Board. Meeting on May 24, the board voted unanimously for the motion to end Specialty Certifications, often referred to as the right side of the career ladder. This action was taken due to low participation in the Specialty Certifications since they began in 2012.  The Specialties were plumbing, appliances, electrical systems, chassis and body. Traditional RV technician certification remains unchanged.

The Specialty on-line prep courses will be re-purposed to Continuing Education classes or can be used for Certification/Master prep when training is only needed in a specific area. These courses will be renumbered for ease of tracking. The old Specialty Cert Prep courses are open for registration only until June 30, 2016 (expiring June 30, 2017) to coincide with the deadlines above. The new course numbers will begin to be available July 1, 2016.

Anyone wishing to pursue certification on the right side of the ladder and/or renew a Specialty certification must do so by June 30, 2016. The board agreed on the following provisions to accommodate individuals currently pursuing or holding any Specialty Certifications:
•    Those already pursuing Master Certification on the right side of the ladder must complete all sessions by June 30, 2017.
•    All Specialty Certifications already issued will expire on their original expiration date and no renewals will be available.
•    The last possible date a Specialty Certification will be issued is June 30, 2017, meaning all Specialties will expire by 6/30/2022.
•    Anyone who has ever held a Specialty Certification will be exempt from the requirement to take the Registered test.
The 23-year-old technician certification program is administered by RVDA and RVIA under the auspices of the RV Service Technician Certification Governing Board.  The program tests, certifies, and recertifies technicians.  For questions or comments on this action email info@rvda.org.   For information on the RVDA-RVIA RV Service Technician program, visit www.rvtechnician.com.
